The Misa Criolla by Argentinian composer Ariel Ramírez (1921-2010) is an exuberant setting of the mass based on Latin-American folk genres, combining Spanish text with indigenous instruments and rhythms.  Written in 1964, this colourful and joyful work became an international hit.

Welsh composer Karl Jenkins (b1944) early professional musical experience was with progressive rock bands and in jazz, but his compositions “Songs of Sanctuary”, “The Armed Man” and “Requiem” have entered the classical repertoire.  His music is characterised by rhythmic energy, haunting melodies and a universal musical language. The opening movement “Adiemus” has become an international hit with classical and non-classical music lovers alike.
