Written in 1887, John Stainer’s “Crucifixion” is a moving re-telling of the events leading to Christ’s crucifixion. The rich harmonies, dramatic word setting, and soaring melodies have ensured that the “Crucifixion” has remained firmly in the mainstream of choral repertoire. Scored for choir, tenor and bass soloists and organ, the work includes five chorales to be sung by the entire congregation.
