In our rural village, the infrequent public transport network unfortunately doesn’t always enable elderly residents to reach their hospital and medical appointments in a timely manner. The Pitstone Community Car Scheme tries to assist these residents by providing a door-to-door service via a local volunteer driver. Knowing they will get there on time, having someone to talk to, and being able to get home again afterwards can be a great comfort at what is often a stressful time for them.
The Pitstone Car Scheme took over 300 bookings in 2017 which shows the level of need for the service. The scheme is urgently looking for a new co-ordinator to match customers with drivers. You would take the telephone calls from customers, send emails to the driving team at the end of each weekday with details of the booking requests, then call the customers back the following day to confirm if the scheme is able to help. You’d also keep all the records for the scheme, so need some experience of Microsoft Office packages such as Excel.
If you are friendly and possess good communication skills, are reliable and organised this could be the perfect role for you. If you are at home quite a bit during the week and could spend up to 1 hour a day (depends on the level of calls received each day) liaising between our customers and drivers, we’d love to hear from you. You could make a real difference to these residents!
