Advice from Thames Valley Police to keep your home safe this winter

Try to prevent your home being targeted by opportunists this winter.  Thames Valley Police offer several tips:

  • Light up your home user timer switches to make it look like someone is home
  • Make sure your windows and doors are locked, even if you are going out for a short time
  • Secure your home, garage and shed with good quality locks
  • Arrange for parcels to be taken in by a neighbour or delivered elsewhere for collection, rather than them being left on your doorstep
  • Keep your keys out of sight
  • Store valuable items out of sight and mark property with security kits where possible
  • Be vigilant and look out for suspicious activity in your neighbourhood and report it to Thames Valley Police (via 111 or their website) promptly (don’t just post about it in a local Facebook/Whatsapp group).
