Devolved Services

The Parish Council has taken on a range of Devolved Services from Buckinghamshire Council.

Devolution involves transferring powers and responsibilities to town and parish councils.

As budget cuts at Buckinghamshire Council level have led to reduced services including the volume of their grass verge cutting (they now only carry out 2 urban cuts and 3 rural cuts (vision splay cuts to improve visibility for drivers) during the course of the year) it has been increasingly important for parish councils to adopt responsibility for these services to better reflect our community needs.

Some examples of the devolved services we provide are:

  • grass verge cutting (Buckinghamshire Council highways land only)
  • sign clutter removal such as removal of fly-posting and the issue of permits for charitable event signage
  • keeping footways free from encroachments (such as overgrown hedges)
  • right of way clearance, where this isn’t undertaken by the landowner

Buckinghamshire Council pass a limited amount of funding (sufficient for the 2 grass cuts they would otherwise undertake) to Pitstone Parish Council and we raise the remainder of the cost required via our element of the Precept.
